Chrysoprase is a misty light green stone in the family of quartzes. The milky green crystals of the bio-chrysoprase or raw chrysoprase blended with the brown of the surrounding stone is a magnificent contrast that really magnifies the tone of the green crystals. Most jewelers call this stone “chrysophase” which is probably just a mispronunciation. My husband took the photo of a necklace I had recently made for a girlfriend who is turning 60. I bought turquoise on the internet and was very disappointed in the quality of the stones and therefore had to scrounge around at the one local bead shop here on the Eastern Shore: The Bead Creation Station in West Ocean City, Md. She has these raw stones which looked gorgeous with some darker stones. I have since made a couple of simpler necklaces with the other stones. I am hoping he posts this necklace and matching earrings this weekend sometime. Chrysoprase is mined in the US, Brazil, Russia, Poland, Tanzania and Australia. It is also sometimes yellow in color and often flecked in appearance.
Chrysoprase is one of many quartzes. Apple green chrysoprase is the most valuable of these quartzes and has been mined since the 14th century according to Pockets Gemstones, 2003.
Green is the chakra of the heart. It is the center of the Chakra system . Aesthetic impulses are processed into feelings and emotions. The ability to love freely, without fear or self consciousness is generated here. Negative feelings and emotions are neutralized. Healing occurs by acceptance of suffering. If you are out of harmony with this chakra the love you give is not sincere. You look for rewards. You cannot accept love given by others. The principle of this chakra is to love beyond the self. Place green crystals like jade, emerald Kunzite or chrysoprase over the center of your body and breathe evenly and calmly to restore balance. With this chakra air is the element. On a male, massage them anti-clockwise; on a female, massage them clockwise.
According to The Crystal Bible “Chrysoprase imparts of sense of being a part of the divine whole. It induces meditative states. Said by the ancients to promote love of truth, Chrysoprase also promotes hope and gives personal insights. It draws out talents and stimulates creativity. It encourages fidelity in business and personal relationships. This crystal energizes the heart and sacral chakras and brings Universal energy into the physical body.” page 113.
Since a necklace of any stone rests near the heart it is a good feeling to know that the stone or crystal used could help offset damage or increase healing of problem arenas. I believe the jewelry I create resonates with good will and well wishes.
